When I saw that this name "apwudictatorship" was available I decided to take over the name as a remembrance to what happened to our APWU Local 197 when our President was Ricky Cornelius. Since I was not ready to post I just decided to let it sit here on the net. Well, looks like I have upset some of our folks out there in the world.
Someone decided to try to shut me down accusing this blog to be a spam blog or something that needed to be restricted. Well... Because of this action I plan on adding to this blog at least once a week.
Anyone if they like can email me if they want to provide an article to post on this blog. I just ask that if be written to give information to all our locals postal employees.
I can be reached at mom197@live.com
PS.... To all who believe me to have been a part of the MOM Team. I was not ever a part of any team. I was just an individual that decided to cause confusion to the MOM Team.
Thanks

A blog to discuss union issues would be great But hey its your blog do what you want
I would not mind discussing Union issues as long as it is done in respectful and professional manner. I also would not mind posting articles on this blog that are Union related to bring information to others of our local
As I look around at work I notice most people don't even have a clue what Rick did to the local.
Most of them don't even know he was finally found guilty of making a fake job offer for someone to pass off as a real one. People don't even know that the member who got involved with his scheme had no clue that he was doing something wrong, and she got the removal letter. She trusted him when he said he was the president and had those kinds of powers. And it got her in big trouble.
His followers (Rick called them his followers) are now walking around at work, pretending they had no part in the past 3 years of dictatorship, not even knowing he did that, or not caring not sure which applies.
I hope that those minutes get posted on the bulletin boards so everyone reads what he did. And then, I am not really sure they will read it, understand the serious-ness of it, or even believe it, because some might still be under Rick's brainwashing.
sad to see management taking advantage of the apwu after 3 years of dictatorship. they are doing whatever, knowing that the union rebuilding is going slow because of all the landmines rick, will and management all have set.
I am afraid much damage will continue before we finally start seeing things get better.
It is a sin what the members of this local allowed Rick and his sidekick Tagart to do over 3 years. While also letting Rick Will and etc chase away, abuse the people who actually cared about us. A sin, shameful. And we may not recover completely from it either.
I don't really have much hope, because many of the good people are walking away from the mess.

in response to your comment, " a lot of good people are walking away from the mess". I sure hope that is not the case. Now is when we need them, more than ever. I know, hanging on for the 3 years of the dictatorship would tax the patience of Job, in itself. Now with the fatal backstab wound of the departing dictator, with the discontinuance and destruction of the steward program, even more patience will be required! Seemingly more than would be considered normal. I know National does not get involved in the local's problems. What if it was explained exactly how and when and why the shutting down of the steward program occurred? Surely this great National Union of ours would not let an injustice of this magnitude occur. A very principal principle on which our union exists for, our collective representation! I know other locals, both large and small, probably have to contend with the stone-age way of doing things. i.e. getting the "hall passes" to see a steward and having a steward assigned to specific pay locations, etc. etc. But the way in which this was done to us, our local, deliberate and with obvious malice. This is not something that should be allowed on any level. The reins were not handed over to rick in this manner. He was handed a perfectly intact union. Mr. Wood should not rightly have to start out his term with a grenade lobbed in, and have to rebuild back up from scratch. Shame on Cornelius. He could'nt do it right from the start, could'nt accept help from his experienced peers, and decided on the way out to share and sow his seeds of failure! Now is exactly when we need those good people, or we are playing right into his hands!

Beautifully put. I myself am putting my two cents worth to a couple of people who have, in my opinion, been on the front lines of the battle since Rick got rid of most of maintenance's stewards way back when.
Any veteran of a foreign war knows that if your tour is extended and extended, and you have to keep fighting what seems like an unwinnable war, you run the risk of suffering from extreme battle fatigue.
I think our most dedicated defenders of our local need to breathe a sigh of relief, look around and see that with a different commander comes new hope.
I think the trenches are in need of a good mucking out, and then our most experienced and dedicated ones will see that the battle is still worth fighting, and now that the battle will only be against mgmt's bad decisions, instead of mgmt AND a union dictator who are both making bad decisions, our troops can once again unite, strategize, and then execute the actions needed to protect us from what is certainly on the horizon: downsizing, contracting out, excessing, consolidations, etc.
We want all our experienced people back, doing what they have always done for us. We need them now more than ever. I also understand, though, that things will never be the same as far as the ease we all had in obtaining stewards assistance at the plant. I do think those days are over. So, we will have to deal with the eighties-style way of work life all over again, but somehow things will work out.

you stated that as you look around, you think that there are people who do not realize what rick did to our local. I have to answer back with that would probably be most of us. what the heck did he do for our local?
beats me! as for the destructo exit he made, I heard about that, from going to the meetings. the majority of the membership does not attend the meetings, so it does'nt surprise me in the least that they are unaware. Even if something is posted about his gross errors in judgement and underhanded ways, people will go about their work-lives and all else, and in time probably forget all about it. rick's penalty from the last trialboard was five years of uninvolvement with the union, if I remember correctly. That's a chunk of time to pass. A lot of things will have changed by then, and we will be in the thick of the current problems of the day. The only thing that I can suggest is that when and if the guy runs again for anything, it should be brought up in any potential opponent's material about his misdeeds, thereby warning voters to take caution before electing rick to any future office. It's okay to forgive, but after hearing the no remorse things, and the statements that I would do it again, makes it something that I will not be willing to forget, especially at election time!
