Getting if off my chest

I am right now feeling like getting a few things off my chest. I think I will begin with saying "Good luck to all who are going up to Morena Facility. I wish you all the best." Boy, that was an easy one... felt pretty good also.

Now time to pick on the mailhandlers... I hear that Bob Monzon won again... by only maybe 10 votes this time. I do wander if there was a recount to verify his winning. Other than see him walk around on the floor periodically I have not seen him do any work for I to long. Also talking about mailhandlers... look at the ones on the LCTS they all appear to be hard working. So why does everyone tell me about how Carmen, Peter, Cristina and Jack (last 2 are 204b's) are doing labeling, scanning, loading and moving equipment? Do not the mailhandlers care enough about their jobs to tell these supervisors and supervisor wannabe's to leave the mail alone? Or is it that they do not care enough.... Then there is Bob and Dwight why have they not talked with these supervisors and 204b's or hit them with enough paper to bury them in paperwork vice doing craft work.

Now onto the clerks.... What is going to happen to the clerks on Tour 2 who work on the 100's? From all rumours and indications appears that all of them are going to be starting either much later in the day like noon... or very late at night. Does this mean that the junior clerks who left earlier are actually in a better position since they have bids and these senior clerks maybe left as unassigned regulars?

What is it that makes you upset? Care to air it out?

I'll bite:

what makes me upset?

the powers that be have had it in their power and authority to excess and reallign bids at our station. out of the four that had to leave, a potential two could have been able to assist the area that I work in. with those two gone, two out on annual, one sick and two with the day off, we had a brutally busy time of it the other day. couple this with our very sick economy, my 40lk losing its value by at least 39% and I feel that I am getting screwed both at the local and the national level by management, leaders etc. that know exactly what they are doing! I have had trust issues for a long time now. the way things are going, I'm not going to look at them as issues, but as reality!

Anyone who has been working in san diego at Midway and later at MLS knows this is an undisputed fact of life: That clerk Plant t-2 jobs are and always have been of a temporary nature.

Management toys with the idea of sorting mail around the clock, but face it--there isn't much mail in there during day time hours. It comes in later, and we aren't supposed to delay mail just to keep tour two people happy in their bids. So....

go back in time to the late 1970s, all during the eighties, at MIdway. People would bid on dual scheme LSM jobs to get to tour two. Work in them maybe 2 years, and then mgmt comes up with a different plan and the whole unit gets excessed with retreat rights. And sometimes the section would be resussitated and the people could come back to it, but usually it would not. Many from those days ended up using their scheme quals to get a good city station job, and we've never seen them at the plant again.

We had a Tecate rebate PO box keying LSM section, lasted maybe a year. Automation clerks, Flat sorting clerks with schemes, you name it, they've tried it, but anyone going into those bids basically were looking over their shuolder all the time, waiting for the powers that be to come onto the floor with their clipboard and some bad news.

So. Those people who bid on tour 2 jobs at MLS, if they remember past what casino they gambled at last week, know that their bids always came with the caveat that they could go up in smoke at the whim of management. And maybe that is happening again right now. If it is, those people knew it would come eventually, and when and if they get their excessing papers, they will also get a retreat right. They will need to find a bid to go to and get on with life. While waiting for their section to arise again from mgmt's heap of old staffing plans.

Nothing at our employer's house is a given anymore, except of course the concept of change. Remember people, Obama says change is good, and we are being his line of bull that we should embrace the unknown changes he will bring.

Why fear change, people. We can't stop it. We have no power. It is not our company. They have the right to make the changes. And don't be surprised that the USPS loves the change word too just like obama. Even if, like obama, they don't know what the hell they are doing, they are faking their way through their careers, they don't mind lying and giving sweet deals to their own while screwing the rest. Thats life. And here at the USPS We all lose our bids if we stick around long enough.

And when Moreno Valley is really up and running, I think there will be even more changes, especially with the letter carriers in this town. Their cocky "we are the backbone of this place and they will never do anything to us" comments will soon come back to slap them upside their heads.

Now. a reminder. Read your LMOU. In there is the sections defined for escessing purposes. And Remember, Rick Cornhole and his band of suck-up cronies did nothing to change the sections for excessing, or anything else in there for that matter. We have to live with Rick Cornelius and his number one guy's decision to do nothing to the LMOU.

So don't blame Tom Wood for what's about to happen. His hands were tied when the last President failed to do what he needed to do in May of 2007. And we have to live with the consequences until at LEAST 2010, next national contract.

Change is a coming cowboys. Hang on to your horses.

Since its halloween and all, I guess its okay to bring up a real scary name from the past, rick cornelius.

Reminds me of a really creepy show from about 20 years ago (?) called american gothic. The sherif in town was totally corrupt and a sociopath.

One of his quotes I remember from the show, and one that I think sums up Rick Cornelius, and his big side kick for that matter:

"Never let your conscience be your guide." Sherif Lucas Buck (with a B) American Gothic.

Come to think of it, Our washington leaders, both present and the one thats going to take office in January, plus the USPS, all share Rick and Lucas Bucks guide to life.

Now thats scary

Yes. read the LMOU for MLS sections. I believe most everything is by tour, so if tour two is going away, those people are not going to be able to hone in on tour 1 or tour 3 section and think they can merge in.

Thats the chance you take when you bid on a great t-2 job, those others who chose to play it safer in a sucky t-1 or 1-3 job shouldn't get bumped out by a cry baby whose primo job went away.

That is exactly why I didn't bid tour 2 automation. I wanted to feel a little safe on tour 3. And so far so god, I haven't lost my bid yet and I been there for 10 years. Got my fingers crossed though because I know the hatchet men are always looking for other jobs to kill.

You ask for it mom. I need to get this off my chest it might take a page or two. I just got the local union rag the pooppourri. I have wrote before about wend the apwu rag came out withall the obama shit on it cover vote and all that was inside was obama poop..I try to ask the nat. pres why did they use my union dues for that but he didnot respond. will I know the local rag is paid for with our union dues my self I don't think they should. They should not tell us how to vote. On page 8 of the rag it tell you how to vote.
What really get me is I don't know what they was thining with the prop. Prop 4 and 8 really hits home for the family and the kids for me anyway.
Prop. 4 is the Sarah law.
It makes Doctor tell the parent if there girl is there for and abortion. Any guy can take a girl he has had sex with to a hospital
and have a abortion look on the web. www.yeson4.net to find out more and to hear phone call to planned parent hood. this is sick.

Proposition 8 is simple and straightforward. It contains the same 14 words that were previously approved in 2000 by over 61% of California voters: “Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.”
It protects our children from being taught in public schools that “same-sex marriage” is the same as traditional marriage, and prevents other consequences to Californians who will be forced to not just be tolerant of gay lifestyles, but face mandatory compliance regardless of their personal beliefs.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/usnw/20081011/pl_usnw/first_graders_taken_to_san_francisco_city_hall_for_gay_wedding That show you how yours kids will be taught.
There is a lot of other things too.

http://www.protectmarriage.com/about
I'm just so piss off at the union now... I'm sorry I ever joined.
they don't seen to be much we are still getting kicked off of t-2
but not much longer till I'm free.
I guess some of you think I'm wrong for feeling this way your all union. Please help save our way of life and our family and kids. Vote yes with me on Prop 4 and 8.

Is the national president of the APWU (American Postal Workers Union) William Burrus saying in his Oct. 3, 2008 BURRUS UPDATE (available on the APWU website) that no clerks or mail handlers can be laid off until 2010?
.

to clarifiyer:

No.

You only have protection if you were part of the regular work force as of November 20 2006.

Anonymous said...

to anonymous October 12, 2008 10:51 AM:

And being part of the regular workforce means "To receive credit for the year, an employee must have worked at least one hour (or received a call-in guarantee in lieu of work) in at least 20 of the 26 pay periods during that anniversary year." ?
.

The 2006-2010 Collective Bargaining Agreement guarantees that each employee who is employed in the regular work force as of Nov. 20, 2006, “shall be protected henceforth against any involuntary layoff or force reduction during the term of this Agreement.”

The agreement also provides that “upon completion of six years of continuous service in their regular workforce” APWU-represented employees are protected against any involuntary layoff or force reduction “during any period of employment in the regular work force with the United States Postal Service or successor organization in his or her lifetime.” To receive credit for the year, an employee must have worked at least one hour (or received a call-in guarantee in lieu of work) in at least 20 of the 26 pay periods during that anniversary year.

If there is no work even the no layoff will not save you.

Just got done looking at www.21cpw.com and can see from the comments posted from members across the country that mail distribution is going to be consolidated away from tour 2 and onto tours 1 and 3.

This appears to be management's game plan nationwide in consequence to the dire drop in mail volumes.

I feel things are going to get very bad for postal workers, across the whole country. And no, I don't think even our messiah, the Lord Obama will be able to save us.

So what is next. And how do we as clerks cope with the inevitable, the thing that we were warned about but never really believed it would happen to us.

I read the potpourri today and I agree that management is trying to get the employee numbers down, even if they have to resort to chasing people out with excessive discipline. Thinking this is just a local problem is a big mistake. take a look at that website and you will see what I mean.

The winds of change are blowing our way. Change that we aren't going to like.

Oh to go back to the good old days. Remember those? When we were screaming because we were still PTFs after a year of employment. When we were getting an hour and 50 OT 4 days a week, even in summer. When we were forced to work our holidays and days off during holiday weekends. When our paychecks covered our rent, car payment, groceries, credit cards, and kids tuition. When it only cost $10.00 to fill up the car with gas for the week. Oh, we complained so much back then. I look back and feel like an idiot for taking part in the whining.

We had it made. We just didn't know it.

And now its over.

Anonymous said...

Remember Burrus at the convention said basically to concentrate on customer service now, because the battle to save plant jobs is a futile one.

I think what has killed us is the promotion of PTFs and the inability to have PTFs from now on. It has forces mgmt to change bids to part time, and now it is forcing excessing people out of town or out of their crafts.

Was this short sightedness on the part of the national negotiators? Did they not see what could happen if you don't have people you can send home early or give an extra day off without penalty?

The National sweetened the deal for us voters by earmarking in big raises for us. And we were so concerned with our own greed and financial gain that we too failed to see what would happen a couple years out?

I think this is what should have been the headline after we voted this contract.

PTFs congratulations! You are now a full time regular.

Oh, but sorry to tell ya, your days with the USPS are now numbered because the company can't support this many full time people on a dropping mail volume. So don't get too comfortable.

But at least you can say you weren't a PTF for 8 years, so be thankful for what you did get.

Signed, Your Union--Always looking out for you.

Shame on all of us. We deserve the pounding we are about to get.

Just read an article in federal times about postal layoffs. The NALC prez says ain't nobody in his craft is going to be laid off. The last part of the paragraph quotes Burrus as saying about layoffs: I don't think there will be much choice.

Burrus has given up the fight already, even though his contract helped put us in this position. Of course it isn't his fault for 12% drop in mail. But in those times, management would have had the right to temporarily cut the PTF hours. Now, they gotta get rid of our junior people.

Anonymous said...

Don't worry. Burrus and Barack got their thing going on.

Burrus and Barack will save us all. They got a plan.

You'll see.

Barack will force the goverment to pay the USPS bills, like that bail out thing they all just voted on last week.

And then we will also get to all go to college for free and get free medical, so even if we can't stay at the PO, we're covered by the Brother's Thug Thizzle.

Its time for the change to happen. vote Obama and we will be safe.

Anonymous said...

Ya we can thank the union for all our good forture right. They made all these ptf reg. so they could jion the union and pay due so all the union office could think there doing a good job.
Thanks to Burrus for everything.
For making the union vote for Barack I'm sure he will save us all. Ya right there both a real joke. We have had it. If Barack does get it bend over and kiss your ass good bye. He is going to give it all away. He said free medical for everybody but you only have to wait 6 month to see a dr.
And free college for everybody too.
WOW what a deal. And you will get a tax rebate check even if you didn't pay any taxes. Ya He will save us all. May God help us.

I think the republicans didn't want to get in amid this economic disaster that they knew was coming. Since most of the people who were behind it, from Jimmy Carter, who started the community reinvestment act, through the rest of the fools in office, who pandered to the likes of the lefty democrat groups who think any druggie, bum, nutcase, or wino should be able to own property, even if they don't have a job and can't make payments. This has been going on hot and heavy the last few years, and anyone bringing up the fact that change was needed in order to prevent a recession was labeled an elite, a racist, whatever.

So, the GOP I think decided, let Barack and the leftists wallow in the crap pile they helped create. Let them try to clean it up the next 4 years. Yes, the leftists will blame others for what they helped bring us into. But who cares. The dude in office is the guy who will ultimately get the blame.

Kind of like Bush getting blamed for 9/11. Check history sites and see how many muslim attacks against americans happened under Clintons watch in 8 years. He didn't do what he needed to do, which was get bin laden when he had the chance.

And because of CLinton's hesitance, or attention deficit, or monica, or whatever, 3000 people died 8 months after Bush first took office. And Bush got blamed.

Have fun Barack, sifting through the filthy litterbox thats going to be your home for the next 4 years.

I'm a little confused. Let me see if I have this straight..... If you grow up in Hawaii, raised by your grandparents, you're 'exotic, different.' Grow up in Alaska eating mooseburgers, a quintessential American story.

If your name is Barack you're a radical, unpatriotic Muslim. Name your kids Willow, Trig and Track, you're a maverick.

Graduate from Harvard law School and you are unstable. Attend 5 different small colleges before graduating, you're well grounded.

If you spend 3 years as a brilliant community organizer, become the first black President of the Harvard Law Review, create a voter registration drive that registers 150,000 new voters, spend 12 years as a Constitutional Law professor, spend 8 years as a State Senator representing a district with over 750,000 people, become chairman of the state Senate's Health and Human Services committee, spend 4 years in the United States Senate representing a state of 13 million people while sponsoring 131 bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran's Affairs committees, you don't have any real leadership experience.

If your total resume is: local weather girl, 4 years on the city council and 6 years as the mayor of a town with less than 7,000 people, 20 months as the governor of a state with only 650,000 people, then you're qualified to become the country's second highest ranking executive.

If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years while raising 2 beautiful daughters, all within Protestant churches, you're not a real Christian. If you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, and left your disfigured wife and married the heiress the next month, you're a Christian.

If you teach responsible, age appropriate sex education, including the proper use of birth control, you are eroding the fiber of society. If, while governor, you staunchly advocate abstinence only, with no other option in sex education in your state's school system while your unwed teen daughter ends up pregnant, you're very responsible.

If your wife is a Harvard graduate lawyer who gave up a position in a prestigious law firm to work for the betterment of her inner city community, then gave that up to raise a family, your family's values don't represent America's. If you're husband is nicknamed 'First Dude', with at least one DWI conviction and no college education, who didn't register to vote until age 25 and once was a member of a group that advocated the secession of Alaska from the USA, your family is extremely admirable.

OK, much clearer now.
